Durian. Indonesian President Joko Widodo on Jan.27 at State Palace in Jakarta has sworn new National Police Chief Gen. Listyo Sigit, replacing Gen. Idham Azis who will retire soon.
Sigit’s name was proposed by President Widodo to the House of Representatives and has passed fit and proper test on Jan.20.
He was one of President Widodo’s aides. Before leading the National Police (Polri), Sigit was head of Polri’s Detectives and Criminal Unit (Bareskrim).
The proposal was triggering pros and cons in public because Sigit has non-Muslim background, but it was solved due to his excellent track record.
During fit and proper test at the House, former Banten provincial Police chief explained his concept to transform Polri if he leads the institution, known as Presisi concept which means predictive transformation, responsibilities and fairly transparency.
He promised to cut bureaucracy, reduce verbal arrogant that are spoke by police personnel to public whom need assistance, eradicate extortion and violence when handling cases.
All programs are aimed to change Polri’s negative image, he said on Jan.20 before the House’s members.
Azis handed over Polri’s command to Sigit shortly after the installment at Polri’s headquarters in South Jakarta.
