Durian. Indonesian Labor Minister Ida Fauziyah has ordered employers and companies to appoint a health and safety (K3) personnel in the workplace to specifically oversees covid-19 prevention and handling measures.

The minister said the measure is important to halt the spread of the disease within workplace in the country.

“We want companies and offices to have a covid-19’s K3 personnel who are responsible to prevent and handle the spread of the virus in the workplace,” Fauziyah said on July 29.

Among the responsibilities of K3 personnel and employers is to ensure the implementation of health protocol runs well and integrated in workers’ daily lives.

She explained further that workers should follow rules such as mask-wearing because they are aware of the importance and not because they only fear of penalty when failing to do so.

In addition, Fauziyah also encouraged employers to implement so-called Gerakan Pekerja Sehat or Healthy Worker Movement which generally aims to socialize healthier lifestyle in workplace and to omit less-healthy habit and behavior.

The movement focuses on more general health issues, including early disease detection, smoke-free workplace, physical exercise, lactation room provision, among others.

Office clusters in Jakarta has become the national focus after National Covid-19 Task Force recently revealed a surge of confirmed cases. According to data by the task force, as of July 28, there have been 459 confirmed cases of covid-19 from 90 office clusters in Jakarta.

The number rose significantly after the province went into a more relaxed transition period of large-scale social restriction (PSBB) at the beginning of June. The transitional period saw the re-opening of most offices in Indonesia after months-long of work-from-home policy.
