Astana - Indonesia and Kazakhstan on Monday, 11 May 2026 have signed several memorandum of understanding (MoUs) in Astana, Kazakhstan in order to strengtening bilateral cooperation between the two countries, particularly in economic, energy. and digital technology sectors.
According to Indonesia's Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto, his visit and meetings in Astana, Kazakhstan is a follow up of the Indonesia–EAEU Free Trade Agreement (FTA) that was signed in December 2025.
Minister Airlangga and entourage met Kazakhstan Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov and Deputy PM and Minister of Economy Serik Zhumangarin.
Minister Airlangga said his visit to Kazakhstan was also aimed to restore bilateral relations between the two countries in economic sector since the last high rank officials visit the Central Asia country in 2013.
"There were some MoUs signed, among others it's on energy, on digital ecosystem, on development of the small and medium enterprises, and collaboration on science and technology. That's the framework of the agreement that will be implemented in the future," Minister Airlangga said, adding that in the related ministers, agencies and relevant business partners to discuss with their Kazakhstan partners.
He explained in the near future Indonesia's state-owned holding company for mining sector, MIND ID, will meet its Kazakhstan business partner to discuss on downstream development in particularly alumina.
Indonesian Ambassador to Kazakhstan Dr. Fadjroel Rachman and Kazakhstan Ambassador to Indonesia Serzhan Abdykarimov accompanied the two delegations.***
