Durian. Sampit is the capital of East Kotawaringin regency, situated in Indonesia’s Central Kalimantan province, home for more than 400,000 people in the area of 16,496 kilometer square.
The city lies along Mentaya river banks. Mentaya River is the vein from and to Sampit, that is why Sampit is commonly called as the city of Mentaya.
Its remote location and lack of transportation infrastructure should not become an obstacle for visitors to come to Sampit, to experience the rich cultural diversity of Sampit through Tiwah ceremony.
Sampit municipal administrators have been working closely with Sampit Military District Command (Kodim) 1015 to promote the area.
According to Lieut. Col. Akhmad Safari, the commander of Kodim 1015/Sampit, currently military personnel were ready to advance the welfare of the people in the remote area by building transportation infrastructure which can open access to other locations.
In October 2020, personnel from Kodim 1015/Sampit have built a bridge to connect Mentaya River’s 1.5 kilometer width.
