Durian. Abu Bakar Ba’asyir, co-founder of Southeast Asia banned regional terrorist of Jemaah Islamiyah (JI) was released from Indonesia’s Gunung Sindur prison in West Java on Jan.8 morning and he is still on deradicalization program under the National Agency for Handling Terrorism (BNPT).

The former leader of banned terrorist group Majelis Mujahiddin Indonesia (MMI) has completed his 15 years of imprisonment on Jan.8 by getting 55 months of sentence cut due to good behaviour and active participation on prison activities.

‘’BNPT according to 2018 Law on Deradicalization Program will apply it [to Ba’asyir],’’ Brig. Gen. Eddy Hartono, director for law enforcement at BNPT said on Jan.8 as quoted by kompas.com.

‘’We hope that after his release, Abu Bakar Ba’asyir  can give peaceful sermons,’’ Hartono added.

To support the program, BNPT have communicated with Ba’asyir family members, related stakeholders such as the National Police (Polri) and the Religious Affairs Ministry, Hartono explained.
