London - British Prime MinisterKeir Starmer has officially announced his resignation as the leader of his political vehicle, the Labour Party, on Monday, 22 June 2026 in front of his office at 10 Downing Street, London.
Before announcing his resignation from the Labour Party, PM Starmer said he had met King Charles III to inform the monarch on his resignation decision.
His decision was taken after hearing Labour Party's parliamentary that indicated not to support him in upcoming election in September. PM Starmer described that he was inherited the party six years ago in the "bankrupt" condition - politically, financially, and morally.
It's becoming public talks that the Labour Party is likely to support Andy Burnhman in the September election.
Through two years of his premiership, PM Starmer said he has achieved many things for the country, including strong economic and wage.
"Every decision I have taken has been about putting the country I love first. That's why I will resign as leader of the Labour Party," PM Starmer stated.
PM Starmer will continue working as the Prime Minister to prepare the election and promised to ensure the Labour Party to seize the second term of leadership in the UK government in September, before ending his premiership duty.
"When I leave the biggest job in the country, I shall spend more time on the most important job, being the best husband I can to my fantastic wife Vic who has been a rock by my side through good times and bad, and being the best dad I can to my beautiful children, who are my pride and my joy," PM Starmer said while withholding tears.
PM Starmer becomes British 6th leaders within 10 years - none of his five predecessors served the kingdom in full term of duty.
