Jakarta - Defense Ministry on Tuesday. 23 June 2026 confirmed two candidate managers for Indonesian government-set's Red-White Village And Urban Village Cooperatives (KDKMP) and Red-White Fishing Village Cooperatives (KNMP) have died during basic military trainings at the Military's (TNI) training sites.

The two candidate managers for village-level cooperatives were part of a batch contains of 30,000 participants of the Scholars Driving Indonesia's Development Program (SPPI), a program initiated by the Defense Ministry.

Anisa Muyassaroh, one of the candidates has died on 18 June due to heat stroke when joined basic military training at the Military Training Regiment of VI Military Regional Commands of Mulawarman in Balikpapan, Indonesia's East Kalimantan.

According to a written statement from the Defense Ministry, Anisa was given first aid at the training site and transferred to a nearby hospital before declared died.

Yonanda Muhammad Taufiq, another cooperative manager candidate, experienced health condition deteriorated on 17 June and taken to a hospital where he died there due to cardiac arrest.

He joined the basic military training at Baturaja Combat Military Training Center in Lampung.

According to the statement from the ministry, all participants of the basic military training, conducted in many locations across Indonesia, have went trough a series of selection phases, including medical checks and declared fit to join.

"Due to various information developed in public space about the implementation of SPPI program, the Defense Ministry understand the attentions and concerns of the people on the safety of training participants. Therefore, the Defense Ministry along with national selection organizer and training organizer at this moment is conducting overall evaluation," the ministry stated.

The ministry reiterated that SPPI program is part of government efforts to provide human resources with discipline, integrity, leadership, managerial ability, and the spirit to serve in order to support national development through KDKMP and KNMP.
