Air Force One - U.S. President Donald Trump on Saturday,16 May 2026 on board the Air Force One that lifted him and entourage from Beijing to Washington claimed that Chinese President Xi Jinping wants Iran to open Hormuz Strait, however no confirmation from China side about it.
"He wants them (Iran) to open the strait," President Trump said when answering journalists questions on board the Air Force One.
China's President Xi didn't give any comment on his discussion with Trump about Iran conflict.
"There is no point in continuing this conflict, which should not have happened in the first place," Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Guo Jianku said about the two leaders meeting.
“China’s position on the Iran situation is very clear. The conflict has inflicted severe losses on the people in Iran and other regional countries. To find an early way to resolve the situation is in the interest of not only the U.S. and Iran, but also regional countries and the rest of the world,” Guoi said in Beijing before President Trump departure for Washington.
Speaking to NBC News, U.S. State Secretary Marco Rubio said that his country was not officially asking China for help in facing the conflict with Iran.
Rubio also claimed that the Chinese side wasn't in favor of militarizing the Straits of Hormuz, and they’re not in favor of a tolling system which is similar to the U.S.' stance.***
