Jakarta - French Embassy Jakarta as a representative of the government through its Institut français d’Indonésie (IFI) holds a three-day short film festival "Clermont-Ferrand Night", kicked off in Jakarta on Tuesday, 31 March 2026 until 2 April.
Along with that IFI also introduces La Fête du court-métrage in Indonesia, "organized by the French cultural network in Indonesia from March 31 to April 2, 2026", across eight cities - Bandung, Denpasar, Jakarta, Makassar, Medan, Semarang, Surabaya and Yogyakarta - according to the cultural institution.
The opening of Clermont-Ferrand Night was attended by French Ambassador to Indonesia Fabien Penone, IFI Director Jules Irrmann as well as filmmakers Widya Arafat and Wregas Bhanuteja.
"Institut français d’Indonésie (IFI) now presents Clermont-Ferrand Night, a special screening celebrating Indonesian short films featured at the Clermont-Ferrand International Short Film Festival, the world’s largest event dedicated to short cinema," IFI said in a statement.
There are four Indonesian short films showed at the opening night - Basri & Salma Dalam Komedi Yang Terus Berputar by Khozy Rizal, Where The Wild Frangipanis Grow by Nirartha Bas Diwangkara, Darah Ksatria by Widya Arafah and Arjuna Asa, and Tak Ada yang Gila di Kota Ini by Wregas Bhanuteja.
The four short movies showed social phenomenon in Indonesia.
Basri & Salma Dalam Komedi Yang Terus Berputar that was selected in Cannes Film Festival 2023 and showed at Clermont-Ferrand International Short Film Festival 2026, tells about a belief among many Indonesians on having many children will bring.prosperity, so a married couple like Basri and Salma without chid after five years of marriage is something that often questioned by relatives and neighbors.

Where The Wild Frangipanis Grow by Nirartha Bas Diwangkara, participated in Clermont-Ferrand International Short Film Festival 2024, tells about sexual abuse experienced by men under power control of respected religious leaders. A real phenomenon in the society and the victims do not dare to speak up.
