Indonesia has successfully built and developed air transportation connectivity by carrying out the concept of ‘Indonesia Sentris’ that focuses on the development of airports in the outermost, remote and isolated areas between 2015 and 2016, the director general of civil aviation said in a statement on Tuesday.
Ten new airports, out of the target of 15, have been built, Polana Pramesti said. She also added that the department will continue working and being committed to ensuring flight safety and security.
“The directorate general of civil aviation got a pretty good result at an audit conducted by ICAO, which is 80.34% of the world average of 65%. In addition, EU Ban has been revoked, so that Indonesian airlines can fly across Europe,” Polana said.
Up until 2019 the civil aviation has also reportedly upgraded and developed 127 border airports, 290 disaster-prone airports, and 242 airports in isolated areas.
An air bridge program or cargo air transport has also been established to support the disparity in the price of goods needed by people in remote and disadvantaged areas or areas that have not been served by other modes of transportation.
“The results are very pleasing that this air bridge can reduce the average price for five basic necessities by 44.85%. This has been recorded since the program was launched in December 2017,” she said.
