Jakarta - Indonesian Transport Minister Dudy Purwagandhi forecast that the number of traveler during the country's largest travel session of Eid al-Fitr or locally known as Lebaran 2026 to decline to 143.9 million people compared to 154 million in 2025.

Indonesia's national calendar shows Lebaran this year will fall on 21 and 22 of March tentatively as the firm date to be measured through a Islamic scholars meeting at least a day before the celebration.

It's a nation-wide tradition of "Pulang Kampung" or homecoming, becoming the largest annual migration session of the country of over 287 million people.

Minister Dudy said the estimation of 143.9 million travelers during this year's Lebaran session based on the Transportation Ministry's survey. It's declining from 2025's survey of Lebaran's travel number of 146 million people.

"However, the real number (of traveler) last year was 154 million (people). So, if you see the declining of 1.7 percent, we will not underestimate it," Minister Dudy said in a Lebaran preparation meeting at Coordinating Ministry for Human Empowerment and Cultural Affairs in Jakarta on Thursday, 12 February 2026.

According to Minister Dudy, the Transportation Ministry has been preparing over 31,000 buses, 829 ships, over 2,600 train schedules, 392 aircrafts, 255 unit of water transportation vehicles for 2026's Lebaran session.

The ministry has been conducting various technical checking to the whole vehicles, he said.***
