Durian. Members of Indonesian Environment and Forestry Ministry’s Forest Fire Control Brigade, locally known as Manggala Agni, have been trying to extinguish forest fires in several locations on the island of Sumatra, Kalimantan and Sulawesi in the last few days up to Sept.21.

Based on reports from the society and data from NOAA and Terra Aqua satellites on hotspot, members of Manggala Agni have taken necessary measures to control those spots to prevent from widely spread of forest fires, Director for Forest and Land Fires Control Basar Manulang said in Jakarta on Sept.21.

The prevention measures were taken in cooperation with the Military (TNI), the Police, regional branches of the National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) and civil society.

Patrol team in the island of Sumatra, particularly from Musi Banyuasin in South Sumatra managed to stop forest fires in one hectare area that contained of mineral soil.

While Manggala Agni and related parties in Muara Teweh district in North Barito regency, Central Kalimantan have been trying to control hotspots in Malawaken village where they are facing some obstacles mostly due to the location that is remotely.

In South Kalimantan, Manggala Agni teams in Tanah Laut and Tapin regencies in the last two days have been trying to extinguish fires from peat land area and bushes in Pandahan village and Suato Tatakan village respectively.

The third location in the province that has hotspots was at Pengayuan Ujung village in Banjarbaru City where Manggala Agni team has successful controlled the fires.

Moreover in South Sulawesi province, Manggala Agni team in Gowa regency has extinguished hotspots in Nirannuang village completely.

The number of hotspot in 2020 from Jan.1 to Sept.22 according to Terra and NOAA satellites has declined more than 91 percent if compared to the same period in 2019.
