Durian. Indonesian Environment and Forestry Ministry arrested four people in an illegal logging law enforcement operation on August 4 and will continue its effort to stop the crime in other part of the country.

Law enforcers found two trucks with about 72 meter cubic of illegal logging in Tangerang, Banten at a warehouse. The origin of the timber was from a forest in Tebo regency in Jambi province on Sumatra Island.

Two truck drivers, an employee and the owner of Cahaya Terang Bersaudara firm. The warehouse where the arrest was made belongs to Cahaya Terang Bersaudara.

They are alleged for violating Indonesian 2013 Law on Preventive and Eradication of Forest Devastation with maximum penalty if found guilty is 15 years of imprisonment.

“The success of this [law enforcement] operation cannot be separated from intelligent activities that managed to map [illegal logging] network,” Sustyo Iriyono, director of prevention and forest security at the ministry said on August 5 in Jakarta.

No forecast of state loss from the illegal activities is available at this moment.

The ministry keeps preventing illegal logging and timber distribution from happened not only from Sumatra’s forests but also from Papua, Maluku, Kalimantan, Sulawesi and Nusa Tenggara, Rasio Ridho Sani, head of law enforcement unit at the ministry said.

“Illegal logging is an extraordinary crime, causing state loss and give impact to the society economically and ecologically,” Sani said.
