Durian. Indonesia and Switzerland have signed a memorandum of understanding for future cooperation on disaster mitigation on July 21 in Jakarta.

Head of Indonesian National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) Doni  Monardo and Swiss Ambassador to Indonesia Kurt Kunz signed the cooperation agreement by hoping that it can improve disaster mitigation handling in both countries.

Switzerland is prominent in medical technology and pharmaceutical industry, therefore, the cooperation agreement is important especially for Indonesia in order to handle non-natural disaster cases such as covid-19 pandemic.

The scope of the cooperation include geological and hydrometeorology disasters such as earthquake, tsunami, volcanic eruption, storm and landslide.

“Switzerland is one of our important international partners in various fields and now it becomes our partner in disaster mitigation,” Munardo said after the signing ceremony.

Through the cooperation, the two countries will work on research, exchange information and aid supply.
