Durian. Indonesian Agriculture Ministry on Aug.29 said it has temporarily been revoked marijuana or cannabis sativa from list of medicinal herbs for further reviews.

Through a ministerial decision in February 2020, the ministry put marijuana in the list of medicinal plants along with 65 other herbs such as ginger and red fruit. The ministerial decision was signed by Agriculture Minister Syahrul Yasin Limpo.

The plant and products made from it would be under assistance and monitoring of the ministry.

However, the decision contrary Indonesian 2009 Law on Narcotics where marijuana is in the group of type I of narcotics along with cocaine and methamphetamine, or locally known as shabu-shabu .

“If many parties view the regulation does not have benefit, we will review the ministerial decision of course,” Prihasto Setyanto, director general of horticulture at Indonesian Agriculture Ministry said on Aug.29 as quoted from state news agency Antara.

Tommy Nugraha, director for vegetable and medicinal plants at the ministry confirmed on Aug.29 that the ministerial decision has temporarily been revoked for review and revision including through discussion with National Anti-Drugs Agency (BNN), Antara reported.

Concerning its pleasure effects, cannabis sativa is used medicinally for such as boosting appetite and analgesic.
