Jakarta - Indonesian Foreign Ministry on Friday, 6 March 2026 disclosed that it will start evacuating its citizens from Iran on Friday, following war in the West Asia country, starting since United States (US) and Israel launched their joint military operation called Roaring Lion on 28 February 2026.

  

Director General of Asia-Pacific and Africa Affairs of the Foreign Ministry Santo Darmosumarto said, there are 329 Indonesians living in Iran at this moment, according to the ministry data.

 

“Evacuation of Indonesia citizens in Iran will start today gradually and for the first phase to be through Azerbaijan,” Acting Director for Indonesian Citizens Protection at the Foreign Ministry Heni Hamidah said in Jakarta at a media briefing.

 

She explained the exit or transit countries for the evacuation will be determined by assessment and decision from the Indonesian Embassy in Iran. Indonesia will evacuate 32 citizens from Iran in the first batch.

  

Heni described the process would go through various communications and coordination to ensure safety passage for Indonesians as it’s the most important priority.
