Durian. Indonesian government, represented by Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment Luhut Pandjaitan, has signed an agreement on green industry on Sept.4 with Australian Fortescue Future Industries (FFI), a subsidiary of Fortescue Metal Group (FMG) in Jakarta.

The signings were in line with Indonesian President Joko Widodo’s direction that was explained to FFI’s founder Andrew Forest during their meeting a day before in Jakarta, about the development of renewable energy to support the green energy industry, Pandjaitan explained further.

The implementation of the agreements will be in the form of 60 gigawatt of hydropower and 25 gigawatt geothermal power renewable energy which to be built across Indonesia, the retired Army general said.

He said coordination on those projects to be under a task force consists of all key stakeholders from both parties which required actualizing investment in those projects immediately. The task force is led by Deputy Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment for maritime sovereignty and energy coordination Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa.

Separately, Forest said that Fortescue will conduct visibility studies before commencing green energy’s projects. Through the cooperation he expected to improve Indonesian people economy in the future.

While for reducing marine plastic leakage in Indonesian waters will be handled through Minderoo Foundation. Indonesia aims to reduce marine plastic waste in its coastal areas up to 2025.
