Durian. An Indonesian Navy’s submarine lost contact with shore on Apr. 21 at 4.30a.m. local time near Bali Island, during a military drill preparation with 53 personnel onboard, Indonesian Military Chief Air Marshal Hadi Tjahjanto told thebigdurian on Apr.21.
The submarine KRI Nanggala-402 was lost contact around 60 miles away from northern part of Bali Island. The German made submarine was built in 1979.
“It is true [the submarine was lost contact]. The search is ongoing. KRI Spice has been deployed to search for it,” Marshal Tjahjanto said.
The ship should participate in the missile launch drill on Apr. 22 that would be attended by the Military and Navy commanders.
Indonesia has asked Singapore and Australia for assistance to search for the missing submarine. Marshal Tjahjanto said the two neighboring countries will send their equipment and personnel to help the search.
Further details will be explained in a press conference in Bali on Apr.22, the military commander said.
