Durian. Indonesian President Joko Widodo has strongly condemned the statement made by French President Emmanuel Macron on Islam which he believed had hurt the feeling of Muslims around the world.

President Macron said he could understand that Muslim were shocked on Prophet Muhammad’s cartoon, however it is not an excuse to commit violence. The statement was responding to the knife attack that has killed three people at Notre Dame Church in Nice last week.

The suspect, a 21-year old male Tunisian migrant, shouted Allahu akbar, or God is greatest, many times when committed the violance. He was shot on the scene and has been under medical treatment.

“Indonesia strongly condemns the statement of the French President which insults Islam, ” President Widodo said on Oct.31 in Jakarta.

“It can break the unity between religious believers in Indonesia,” the president added.

President Widodo said further that freedom of expression which can break the beliefs and religious values cannot be justified at all and must be stopped immediately.

“Associating a religion with an act of terrorism is a big mistake. Terrorism is terrorism, terrorists are terrorists. Terrorism has nothing to do with any religion,” former Jakarta governor said.

Jokowi has also condemned the deadly attack in Paris and Nice.

“Indonesia strongly condemns the violence that occurred in Paris and Nice which has claimed lives.”
