Durian. Three Indonesian female workers were charged by Singaporean court on Oct.23 for financing terrorism activities, the Home Affairs Ministry said in a statement.
The three Indonesians – Retno Hernayani (36), Anindia Afiyantari (33) and Turmini (31) – were arrested in September under Singaporean Internal Security Act (ISA). They have been working as domestic workers in Singapore in the range six to 13 years.
“Three female Indonesian nationals were charged in court on Oct.23, 2019 for collecting and or providing money for the purpose of facilitating terrorist acts,” the ministry said in the statement.
They were charged with the Terrorism (Suppression of Financing) Act. The three individuals were alleged for supporting terrorist group Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS) and its affiliated group in Indonesiaa Jamaah Ansharut Daulah (JAD).
A parallel investigation by the country’s Commercial Affairs Department and the Singapore Police Force from Sept. 2018 to July 2019 found that Hernayani, Afiyantari and Turmini had sent money in various occasions and amount to some individuals in Indonesia during the period.
“The act of collecting and or providing money in support of terrorist purposes, regardless of the amount, is a serious offence under the Terrorism (Suppression of Financing) Act,” the ministry said.
“Terrorism and its financing represent a grave threat to domestic and international security and global action is required to deprive terrorist groups of funding and materials,” it stated.
The three Indonesians face maximum 10 years of imprisonment and $500,000 if found guilty.
