Durian. Indonesian Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) issued a weather alert related to the detected of tropical storm Ferdinand in some part of the country which will trigger heavy rains that could cause floods within one week.
The agency said the storm was detected on Feb.24 in Indian Ocean near West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) and circulated of the wind spreading to Banten.
“BMKG forecast in a week ahead, intensity of rain will be high continuously along with thunders,” the agency said in a statement on Feb.25.
Bangka Belitung, Bengkulu, Lampung, Banten, Jakarta, West Java, Central Java, Yogyakarta, East Java, West Kalimantan, Central Kalimantan, North Kalimantan, East Kalimantan, South Kalimantan, Bali, West Nusa Tenggara, West Sulawesi, Southeast Sulawesi, South Sulawesi, North Sulawesi, Gorontalo, Maluku, West Papua and Papua are forecasted have heavy rains in the period of Feb.25-28.
Aceh, North Sumatra, West Sumatra, Jambi, South Sumatra, Bengkulu, Bangka Belitung, Lampung, Banten, Jakarta, West Java, Central Java, East Java, West Nusa Tenggara, East Nusa Tenggara, West Kalimantan, Central Kalimantan, East Kalimantan, South Kalimantan, North Sulawesi, Gorontalo, Central Sulawesi, South Sulawesi, Southeast Sulawesi, North Maluku, Maluku, West Papua and Papua are expected to have heavy rains from period of Feb.29-March 2.
“Public are urged to be alert and caution on the impact possible caused such as floods, landslides, flash floods, heavy wind, falling trees and slippery roads,”BMKG said.
On Feb.25, heavy rains since early morning have drowned capital Jakarta, Bekasi in West Java and other places which impacted public transportation operations and power supply.
No casualty has been reported due to the natural disaster.
