Jakarta - Indonesia's Corruption Eradication Commission or KPK on Wednesday, 3 June 2026 announced the arrest of 17 individuals, linked to resident permit for foreigner nationals, including top immigration officials, after investigating a caught-red handed bribery case, and after asked Deputy  Minister for Immigration and Penitentiary Silmy Karim to surrender himself to the agency.

On Wednesday evening hours, Silmy Karim, who is also former director general immigration, arrived at the KPK building in South Jakarta.

After several hours of questioning, Silmy and seven others were moved from interrogation rooms wearing orange jackets that only use by suspects and detainees.

No details have been provided by the anti-graft agency yet, but before Silmy's arrival at the law enforcement body's headquarters, a spokesperson of the KPK has explained on a series of arrests in Bali, West Java, as well as in Jakarta and surroundings areas for 17 people, linked to the deputy minister's detain.

According to Budi Prasetyo, a spokesperson for the KPK, among 17 individuals arrested, there're eight state apparatus and public servants, and nine from private parties. So far, 18 people have been questioned due to the case.

Other top rank officials beside Silmy are former Director General for Immigration Saffar Godam, Head of West Java Immigration Office Jaya Saputra, and Head of West Jakarta Immigration Office Ronald Arman Abdullah. 

"The KPK will hold a case expose to determine legal status of them," Budi Prasetyo of the KPK said on Wednesday evening.

Law enforcers from the KPK also confiscated seven cars, 15 motor cycles, hundreds grams of gold from the arrest of 17 individuals, while starting from Wednesday evening until Thursday early morning, law enforcers raid Silmy's resident in South Jakarta.

Silmy, Gaffar, and other officials who are under the KPK detention declined to comment when asked by journalists.
