Jakarta - Indonesia's Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Technology Brian Yuliarto on Wednesday, 27 May 2026 shared his concerns amid a recent falsification scandal in a world-class scientific conference in Denmark where several Indonesians involved.

He said that the case could affect international perceptions of the integrity of Indonesian research communities.

His statements responded to the research falsification scandal by several independent and inactive researchers on the conference stage within the International Society of Pneumonia and Pneumococcal Diseases (ISPPD) 2026 Copenhagen held from 17 to 21 May 2026.

There're four names appeared in this scandal - Prihantini, Rifaldy Fajar,  Rini Winarti, and Riana Dwi Kurniawati.

Prihantini in the conference presented in two different researches with two identities.

Other Indonesians who attended her presentations noticed something unusual from the researches and later uncovered it's the result of using artificial intelligence (AI) tools and not from their actual field research.

"We understood this case feared to impact the international perception of the integrity of Indonesian researchers. Therefore, academic integrity must be the main foundation of our higher education and research ecosystem," Minister Brian stated.

Brian also warned the public sphere not to generalize the scandal involving Indonesia's academic communities as he believes those cases should not overshadow the achievements of Indonesian academics and researchers who have been working professionally all this time.

"Indonesia has a large number of researchers, lecturers, students, and innovators who work professionally, uphold good ethical standards and integrity, have a reputation, and continue to produce internationally recognized research," he said.
