Durian. Indonesia’s National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) confirmed on Tuesday afternoon that the death toll from Cianjur earthquake had reached 103 and over 30 others are still reported missing.
A magnitude 5.6 earthquake hit Cianjur regency in Indonesia’s West Java province on Monday afternoon, triggered landslides that cut off transport connectivity between Cianjur and neighboring areas.
The inland earthquake was felt also in Jakarta, Bandung and other cities and regencies beside Cianjur as its center was 10 km depth from the surface.
Over 2,000 houses damaged, according to BNPB. The earthquake forced over 7,000 people living in shelters.
Rescue efforts are ongoing to find those who are still under ruins and reported missing.. Due to the difficulties to reach the disaster prone area because of landslides cut roads to Cianjur, authorities deploy helicopters to the area.
