Durian. An Indonesian economist Rizal Ramli said on Feb. 25 that economic growth of the country has been stagnant at 5 percent, the lowest post reform in 1998, during the leadership of President Joko Widodo, or Jokowi.
He said due to the situation, purchasing power of the people has been declining. Jokowi has managed to reduce the number of the poor as much as 450,000 people annually, the lowest number compared to other presidents after May 1998 in which late President Abdurrahman Wahid, or Gus Dur, was on record high at 5.05 million poor people annually.
“It’s because of … reckless import policies and the abolition of household electricity subsidy for 450 VA and 900 VA,” Rizal said in Jakarta.
Previously, Rizal has said that his critics was not related to the competition between Jokowi and his opponent Prabowo Subianto in the upcoming presidential election as he remains neutral to both candidates.
