Jakarta - Indonesia's state-run power firm Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN) on Friday, 19 June 2026 evening announced and apologized officially on the disrupted of electricity supply on the Island of Java in recent days and days to come due to the availability of medium rank coal (MRC) and troubles occurred in two independent power producers (IPPs).

"We, on behalf of PLN want to deeply apologize due to (electricity) rolling blackout on Java Island. We understand the difficulties faced by the people due to this event," CEO PLN Darmawan Prasodjo announced in Jakarta.

Java Island is home for proximity 159.2 million people, by mid of 2026, from total population of Indonesia that's about 288 million. 

Representing the company, he promised to fix the troubles immediately to ensure normal electricity supply across Java Island. Rolling blackout in many cities and areas across Java has started on Thursday, 18 June 2026.

The CEO said PLN will accelerate the signing of contracts with coal suppliers, appointed by the government, and with IPPs.

"At this moment, distribution of medium rank coal on process of distributing to all of steam power plants (PLTUs) across Java Island, whether owned by PLN and our partners or IPPs," he said.

He explained that the coal distribution went to PLTU Pelabuhan Ratu, PLTU Lontar, PLTU Labuan, PLTU Suralaya 1 to-8, PLTU Jawa 7, PLTU Jawa 9, PLTU Jawa 10, and PLTU Indramayu in West Java, as well as to PLTU Paiton 1, PLTU Paiton 2, PLTU Paiton 9, PLTU Rembang, PLTU Pacitan, and PLTU Tanjung Awar Awar.

"In this kind of condition, we also face challenges of technical troubles in two big power plant on Java Island, own and operated by our partners, two IPPs that face technical disruption and forcibly out of power system on Java Island," CEO Darmawan explained.
