Durian. Indonesia’s rescuers have been rushing to evacuate residents who are living in the slope of Mount Merapi on Jan.27 when the volcano started spewing columns of ashes to the air.
Mt. Merapi started erupting since Jan.4, according to head of Indonesia’s Center for Investigation and Development of Geological Disaster Technology (BPPTKG) Hanik Humaira through a video conference from Yogyakarta.
The eruption has been parallel with the appearance of new crater from the volcano mountain, she explained.
‘’On Wednesday, Jan.27 from 00.00 to 14.00 Western Indonesia Time, Mt. Merapi has spewed hot clouds 36 times with sliding speed between 500 to 3,000 meters toward Southwest,” Humaira said.
Due to the eruption, areas in Boyolali regency and Boyolali municipal were affected by rain of ashes.
BPPTGK warned residents to avoid conducting activities in the area around 5 km from the crater of Merapi especially near Krasak, Boyong, Bedog, Bebeng and Putih rivers.
Beside volcanic ashes, residents should anticipate cold lava coming from the peak of the mountain when raining, Humaira said.
The National Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas) said residents who are living in Turgo village, Sleman regency in Yogyakarta were evacuated on Jan.27.
