Showing the object to journalists in Jakarta, confirmed that object which was found in the water near Selayar Island in South Sulawesi in late December was an underwater sea glider and will examine it further to find the owner.
The object has similar physical appearance to underwater sea glider. Indonesia at this moment doesn’t have such kind of vessel, Admiral Margono said.

Former commander of First Regional Defense Command (Kowilhan I) said Navy’s Hydrography and Oceanography Center (Pushidrosal) will be given one month period to examine the object to find more information about it.
He explained underwater sea glider is used for research for various purposes such as for defense, industry, which depend on the user. It should be released by a ship and can dive up to 2,000 meter under the sea level for about two years.
For defense purpose, an underwater sea glider can search information on seabelt leyers that is needed for submarine from detected.
‘’Many countries have produced it such as the United States of America, French, China, Canada, Japan — almost all countries that have hydro-oceanography vessel [can produce underwater sea glider],’’ Margono explained.
Navy will coordinate with ministries and government agencies to check on possible cooperation with foreign party to conduct research using underwater sea glider in Indonesian waters, Margono said.
