Durian. Indonesian state radio, Radio Republik Indonesia (RRI), has been closing its headquarters in Jakarta after three of employees were found infected by covid-19 virus.

The closure is expected to end after 14 days.

It is the second closure for RRI as its Surabaya’s office stopped its activities since June and planned to reopen on July 13, but it should reschedule due to new covid-19 cases affected the broadcast firm’s employees, RRI Director of Human Resources Nurhanudin told thebigdurian.news on June 22.

“There are three people are confirmed positive of having covid-19 [virus],” Nurhanuddin said.

He explained since March, most of RRI’s employees have been working remotely but the composition of those who are conducting their duties from home and from office kept changing due to health emergency status.

“When we found that [our employees] are affected, we lockdown [RRI headquarters] 100 percent,” he explained.

Five employees from RRI’s Pro3 unit have still been working to keep the state-radio on air.

State-run television TVRI also closed its Surabaya’s office in East Java starting on July 13 after two of its employees died because of the virus.

Since March until July, at least 96 journalists from various media outlets have been affected by covid-19 virus, according to Indonesian Television Journalists Association (IJTI) on July 23 as reported by tempo.co.
