Durian. Indonesian authorities have been evacuating residents who are living in the slope of Volcano Mountains on Java Island and East Nusa Tenggara province following the eruption of Mt. Semeru and Mt. Ili Lewotolok.

Mt. Semeru, the highest mountain on Java Island, spewed volcanic materials on early Dec.1 morning from its Jonggring Seloko crater that was formed since 1913.

The materials were sliding 2 to 11 kilometers toward Besuk Kobokan area in Southeast sector from the crater, the National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) said in a statement.

At least 550 people who were living in the slope of Mt. Semeru in Lumajang regency, East Java, were evacuated to two safe locations on Dec.1.

‘’People cannot do their activities in range 1 km-4km from southern and southeastern sectors of active crater (Jongring Seloko) of Mt. Semeru,’’ BNPB quoted information from Indonesia’s Center for Volcanology and Geological Disaster Mitigation (PVMBG) on Dec.1.

Separately in East Nusa Tenggara Mt. Ili Lewotolok has been erupting since Nov.29.

As of Dec.1, more than 5,800 people are displaced and spreading in at least 20 shelters. The governments through related agencies have distributed foods and thousands of face masks to the people.
