Tehran - Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei died, an Iranian media, Iran TV broadcast on Sunday, 1 March 2026 and amplified by Fars news agency.

"The Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution was martyred  at his workplace, at the Leader's Residence," Fars said.

The news agency denied media reports, saying Khamenei was hiding from United States and Israel's joint military operation, called Lion's Roar, starting on Saturday, 28 February 2026.

"At the time of his martyrdom, he (Khamenei) was performing his assigned duties and was present at his office and this cowardly attack occurred in the early hours of Saturday morning," it said.

From the information from Fars news agency, Ayatollah Khamenei most likely was killed on Saturday when US-Israel started attacking Iran.

"The government declared 40 days of public mourning and 7 days of public holiday," the media said.
