Durian. A passenger bus had hit safety wall and plunged into a 150-meter ravine in Pagar Alam, South Sumatra on late night of Dec. 23, causing at least 25 people died and 16 others injured.

The government of Indonesia and the country’s Safety Transportation Committee (KNKT) will conduct investigation on the cause of the accident, its Transportation Ministry said.

Wounded victims were taken to nearby hotel for medical treatment.

Rescue and evacuation process is ongoing and the number of victim is likely to increase.

The number of passenger onboard bus Sriwijaya during the accident is still unknown. The bus was departed from neighboring province Bengkulu and bounded to Palembang in South Sumatra with 50 passengers, a police report said.

If the investigation finds the bus was road unworthy, the operator will face criminal charge.
