Durian. A powerful earthquake measuring magnitude 7.0 has hit the Philippines Sea in the border with Indonesia on Jan.21 evening, but no tsunami warning was issued, Indonesia’s Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) said.
The centre of the tremor was 132 km Northeast of Melonguane, Talaud Islands regency in Indonesia’s North Sulawesi province at 119km depth, BMKG said.
It happened at 7.23 p.m. western Indonesia time.
‘’The earthquake was a middle scale tremor that happened because of Philippines Thrust subduction activity,’’ BMKG said in a statement.
In Indonesia, the tremor was felt in North Sulawesi’s Melonguane, Tahuna, Odong, Manado and Bintung; Gorontalo province; North Maluku’s Galela, Morotai, North Halmahera, West Halmahera, Ternate, Sofifi and Central Halmahera.
However, no report on casualty and damage.
