Damascus - French President Emmanuel Macron escaped twin bombs detonated near in Halbuni neighborhood, near his hotel in Damascus, Syria on Tuesday, 7 July 2026 during his state visit to the country and the president continue his scheduled, including meeting Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa when calling Israel to withdraw from Lebanon.

During a joint press conference after bilateral meeting at the People's Palace in Damascus, President al-Sharaa tanked President Macron for continuing his agenda in Syria following the twin bombings near his hotel.
"I want to salute President Macron for his courage. As soon as news of the explosion reached him, he immediately declared that the visit would continue and that its program would go ahead as planned," President al-Sharaa said, adding that many parties dislike the awakening of Syria.
President Macron in that press conference expressed French commitment to assist Syria rebuilding the country that's badly hit by war and conflicts.
Further he said Syria must be fully sovereign and unity as of for Israel, it must withdraw from Lebanon.
"We believe that Israel should leave the territory of Lebanon. We believe that Syria must be fully sovereign over their land," President Macron said.

In his X account, President Macron expressed his state visit, the first time in 17 years conducted by French leaders, as "a new partnership between Syria and France, for a new era".
The two state leaders witnessed the signing of several MoUs and agreements between state officials and business representatives of the two countries.
