Durian. Thousands have been displaced due to rains in many locations in Indonesia’s Java, Sumatra and Kalimantan Islands have triggered floods and landslides, adding to current natural disasters affected Indonesia since the starting of 2021.

Data from the National Disaster Mitigation (BNPB) said on Jan.19, there are at least six districts at Pidie regency, Aceh on Sumatra have affected by floods since Jan.18, causing more than 1,000 IDPs and no casualty was recorded.

Besides prolong floods that have been affected total 10 regencies and municipals in South Kalimantan province, BNPB reported new that torrential rains have caused Sembakung River in Nunukan, North Kalimantan province was overflowed on Jan.18 to 100 centimeters along its river banks, submerged 10 villages in Sembakung districts.

More than 2,750 residents are affected by the flood as 533 houses submerged as well as 115 hectares of paddy fields. No casualty was reported.

On Java Island, torrential rains have triggered flash floods in Bogor district in West Java on Jan.19 morning and afternoon, forced about 900 people fled homes for safety places.

More than 6,600 people are affected by floods that occurred in Pekalongan regency, Central Java on Jan.18 evening due to high intensity rains, affected four districts. BNPB recorded 2,075 houses are submerged.

On Jan.18, floods have affected four districts at Malang municipal in East Java with 260 houses are submerged. One resident is still missing, BNPB spokesperson Raditya Jati said in Jakarta.

Based on weather forecast from the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), intensive rains with vary intensities will continue pouring in many places across Indonesia up to February.
