Jakarta - Indonesia, home of more than 260 million people, has passed 2018 with various remarkable events as follows:

Politics:

The country held simultaneous regional elections in 17 provinces on June 27 peacefully.

In August, incumbent President Joko Widodo officially announced to compete for second term in 2019 presidential election with then chairman of the Ulemas Council (MUI) Ma’ruf Amien as his running mate.

In August, chairman of Gerindra Prabowo Subianto announced that he will race in the next year presidential election with young businessman Sandiaga Uno as the running mate.

The crowd of thousands gathered at the National Monument (Monas) in Central Jakarta on Dec.2 for a “reunion” of similar gathering in 2016 to demand the arrest of then Jakarta governor Basuki Tjahaja Purnama or Ahok for blasphemy

Economy:

Indonesia hosted IMF-World Bank Annual Meetings in Bali in October in which more than 36,000 participants were attended.

Still on October, Indonesia hosted Our Ocean Conference (OOC) that booked 287 new commitments related to marine protection efforts, worth $10.7 billion. The event was taken place in Bali.
