Durian. Search and rescue operation to find junior high school students, who went missing since Feb.21 due to flash flood in a Yogyakarta river banks in Indonesia since Feb.21, was resumed on Feb.23 morning after two last victims were found.
A twelve and a thirteen years old girls who were at grade 7 were found death on Feb.23 morning a few hundred meters away from the location where they went missing at Sempor river banks in Sleman regency, made the total casualty to 10.
The incident took place on Feb.21 when nearly 250 students from state Junior High School No.1 Turi in Sleman, Yogyakarta were trekking on the river banks as part of scouting activities, when flash flood smashed them.
Five bodies were found, 23 others injured and 216 survived on Feb.21, while five went missing. Three of the missing students were found on Feb.22 and the other two on Feb.23, the National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) of Indonesia said. All death victims were girls from age 12-15.
At least 45 institutions joined three-day rescue operation.
“By finding all of victims, so the search and rescue operation is resumed today,” Asnawi, commander of the operation said as quoted from BNPB statement on Feb.23.
