Nairobi - Russia plans to send 13 tonnes of humanitarian aid to Iran, would become the first country giving direct assistance to Iran since the United States (US) and Israel launched their joint military operation against then Persia, starting on 28 February 2026.

Iran has been conducting counter-attacks since, directly to Israel's territory and US military bases and interests in West Asia region, including United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Qatar, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia and Jordan.

Russian Embassy in Kenya published in its social media account in X on Saturday, 14 March 2026 about the aid plan.

"Russia becomes the first country to send humanitarian aid to Iran," it said, adding that the humanitarian aid will be delivered by a cargo aircraft of Ilyushin II-76.

The embassy said the aircraft will drop the aid, contains of medical supplies, to Azerbaijan.

Azerbaijan as a close neighbor, sharing land border with Iran, according to the embassy "will assist in transferring it to the Iranian authorities".***
