Durian. United States’ Secretary of State Michael Pompeo will visit Indonesia as part of his trip to several countries in Asia from Oct. 25-30, a few days before the US 2020 presidential election.
“Secretary Pompeo will visit Indonesia next week,” Indonesian Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi said on Oct.22 in Jakarta.
US presidential election will be held on Nov.3.
The visit plan was also announced at the US Department of State’s website on Oct.21 which saying that Secretary Pompeo to visit India, Sri Lanka, Maldives and Indonesia during his Asia official trip.
“Besides having bilateral meeting with me, Secretary Pompeo will also attend Anshor Youth Movement Forum on religion and civilization dialog,” Minister Marsudi said, referring to youth-wing of Indonesia’s largest moderate Muslim organization of Nahdlatul Ulama (NU).
Marsudi was optimist that her bilateral meeting with Pompeo can strengthen Indonesia-US relationship.
The two countries have strong commitment to continue building their partnership which reflects from intensive two-side official visits, the Indonesian senior diplomat said.
Indonesian Defense Minister Prabowo Subianto has visited Washington on Oct.16 to respond an invitation from US Secretary of Defense Mark Esper.
