Durian. Prosecutors from Depok attorney general office in West Java on Feb.1 sent Buni Yani to Gunung Sindur prison to serve his 18 months jail sentence for spreading hatred that eliminated peace among civil societies in Indonesia.
Buni who was the uploader of an edited-video, claiming former Jakarta governor Basuki Tjahaja Purnama or Ahok made blasphemous statement by citing a Koran verse.
The video went viral and had triggered public anger and led to a legal case process that brought Ahok to get two-year prison sentence in 2017.
Ahok was released on Jan.24 after serving almost two years in prison.
While, Buni’s legal case was decided in 2017 by Bandung district court in West Java, in which a panel of judges found him guilty of spreading hatred by posting the video under the country information and electronic transaction law, Suara.com reported.
Buni fought the district court’s decision to the West Java high court which later rejected his plead to annul the lower court ruling. Unsatisfied with the high court decision, Buni appealed to the Supreme Court which on November 2018 decided to reject his proposal.
His legal representatives have filed a judicial review to the Supreme Court aiming to make Buni escape from the sentence.
However, according to Indonesian legal system, state prosecutors are allowed to implement any court decision when the Supreme Court as the highest unit in the judiciary system has made its final decision.
“I will follow the legal process, today I came and will move to Gunung Sindur (prison), Bogor (West Java),” Buni said as quoted by Suara.com.
