Durian. A female Sumatran elephant, or Elephas maximus sumatrensis, was born at an elephant training center in Riau province in Indonesia on Sept. 18 from mother named Nia, Indonesian Environment and Forestry Ministry said in a statement on Sept.20.

The baby was named Rizky which a symbol of the blessing from the nature and its environment. The name was given by Indonesian Environment and Forestry Minister Siti Nurbaya.

Rizky was the second elephant that was born in 2020 in Riau, under the monitoring of the provincial Natural Resources Conservation Center (BKSDA) according to Suharyono, head of BKSDA Riau in the statement. The first born Sumatran elephant in Riau this year was a male named Damar from mother Ngatini and father Robin on July 3.

Rizky’s mother was a rescued in July 2006 from Petapahan village in Kampar regency, Riau at age 20.

Nia conceived Rizky that was born with weight around 81 kilograms for 22 months. Both mother and child are in the good condition, Suharyono said.

“It’s a surprise and gift for 2020 National Natural Conservation Day,” he said on Sept. 20.
