A joint evacuation team was set on Monday, January 5, 2024 to evacuate compartments of two trains that had crashed in the morning hours near Cicalengka Train Station in Indonesia’s West Java, so the railway part can have train services back to normal soon as the death toll from the transport accident rose to four and 37 others are injured, according to Indonesia’s Transportation Ministry.
The ministry confirmed that the fatalities were all from the Indonesia’s Railways (KAI)’s employees – three from Bandung Commuter Line train and another from Turangga Train.
“At this moment, almost all of the wounded victims have been released from hospital. Only two victims are still hospitalized,”said Risal Wasal, director general of train transportation at the Transportation Ministry.
He said further that the KAI as the operator of train transportation, the Transportation Ministry and the National Transport Safety Agency (KNKT) will work together to investigate the cause of the train crash.
Turangga Train that was heading to Bandung Train Station, West Java from Gubeng Train Station in Surabaya, East Java, crashed with a Bandung Commuter Line Train at 06.03am local time on January 5,2024. ***
