Jakarta - Indonesian Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) on Thursday, 2 April 2026 lifted a tsunami alert on a magnitude 7.6 earthquake at the sea in the northern area between Sulawesi Island Maluku islands.
"Tsunami early warning caused by a magnitude 7.6 earthquake, released at 5.48am western Indonesia time has declared ended," BMKG said at 10.19am western Indonesia time.
The earthquake felt strong in two provinces - North Sulawesi and North Maluku.
The earthquake has triggered people panic and run out of homes and buildings, some evacuated themselves to higher grounds.***
