Jakarta - The United Arab Emirates (UAE) said on Wednesday, 8 April 2026 that Iran attacks to the country, other member countries of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) and Jordan is not a religious war, instead the matter of security, sovereignty and international law.
UAE Ambassador to Indonesia, Timor Leste and ASEAN Abdulla Salem AlDhaheri in a media gathering in Jakarta on Wednesday evening explained facts related to Iranian attacks to the territory of UAE, Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Oman and Jordan since February 28.
Iran has been attacking those countries saying the act is retaliation against the United States' interests there, following joint military operation conducted by US and Israel against the Persian country, starting in 28 February 2026.
"As of 7 April, the United Arab Emirates air defense system have successfully detected and intercepted almost 2,800 missiles (from Iran)," Ambassador AlDhaheri said, adding there were around 285 missiles to Jordan, over 1,000 to Kuwait, over 700 to Qatar, around 750 toward Bahrain, within range of 30 to Oman and within 1,300 to Saudi Arabia.
In EUA alone, thousands of missiles, drones and ship missiles attacks have resulted 13 civilians were killed, 217 injured and damaged vital civil infrastructures, including airports, sea ports, energy facilities and residential areas.
"These facts clearly demonstrate that these attacks are not limited to military targets," Ambbasaor AlDhaheri stated.
Iran attacks against GCC member countries and Jordan shift toward targfetting civilians infrastructures aiming to undermining economy stability rather than achieving legitimate military objectives but failed to be achieved as those countries keep maintaining good environment for investment as well as economic stability, the Ambassador said.
"Let me be very clear on this point, attempts to frame this conflict as a religious war are misleading and do not reflect reality. This is a matter of security, sovereignty, and international law - not religion. I repeat, this is not a religious war," Ambassador AlDhaheri stressed.
The Ambassador statement relevant in the midst of Iran's narrative that what its has been doing, attacking Israel and US' interests in other countries in West Asia region is part of wage to defend Islam.
