Durian. Vietnam’s the 15th National Assembly on Thursday has elected Vo Van Though as the country’s new president in its fourth extraordinary session and as of Saturday foreign leaders have sent their congratulations to the elected president as reported by Vietnamese news agency VNA.

President Though is a member of Politburo and permanent member of the 13th Party Central Committee’s Secretariat as well as a deputy of the 15th National Assembly. He gained 487 votes out of 488 deputies of the National Assembly and will serve as the president of the country until 2026.

President Thuong was sworn in on Thursday.

Russian President Vladimir Putin, Indian President Droupadi Murmi, Italian President Sergio Mattarella, UAE President Mohammed bin Rashid al Maktoum, North Korean Leader Kim Joung-Un and Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida congratulated newly elected President Though on Saturday.

On Saturday President Thuong has welcomed Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister Samdech Krolahom Sar Kheng who arrived in Hanoi to start his official visit in the country. Vietnam and Cambodia are two neighboring countries in Southeast Asia and are members of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (Asean).
