Durian. A panel of three-judges at South Jakarta district court on Jan.28 has sentenced Indonesian musician Ahmad Dhani Prasetya of 18-month in prison for spreading hatred through his Twitter account.

Presiding judge H. Ratmoho said the pioneer of Dewa 19 music band was proven guilty of spreading provocative information that contains of hate speech which could create hatred among individuals and groups in the society.

He was detained directly after the court session ended and taken to Cipinang prison in East Jakarta.

Ahmad Dhani is also a politician with the Great Indonesia Movement Party (Gerindra).

His lawyers plan to appeal to the Jakarta high court.

The musician was reported by several individuals to police for at least three of his hatred twits in March 2017 that were related to former Jakarta governor Basuki Tjahaja Purnama’s blasphemy case.
