Jakarta - Michael Bambang Hartono, co-owner of Indonesia's largest cigarette company Djarum and largest private bank by valuation Bank Central Asia (BCA) has died on Thursday, 19 March 2026 in Singapore at 86 years old, football team Como1907 said in its X account.
Michael Hartono, is also co-owner of Como1907, an Italia football club as well as co-owner Indonesia's largest clove cigarette group of Djarum and the founder of Indonesia's electronics firm Polytron.
"Como1907 is deeply sadness by the passing of Michael Bambang Hartono. We extend our sincere condolences to the Hartono family and to all at the Djarum Group," the club said.
Born in Kudus, Central Java in October 1939, Michael Bambang Hartono and his brother Robert Budi Hartono inherited Djarum factory from their parents and the company has been growing robustly since.
Forbes Magazine in December 2025, Michael Bambang Hartono and his brother Robert Budi Hartono were the richest Indonesians with total wealth of 729.6 trillion rupiah or above 43 billion US dollar.***
