North Halmahera - Authorities in Indonesia confirmed that two Singaporean nationals were among three casualties from the eruption of Mount Dukono in North Halmahera, North Maluku on Friday, 8 May 2026.
Rescuers on Friday afternoon have evacuated 17 people, three have died and the rest are survived, from the slope of the volcano mountain, while three others are still missing, included two Singaporeans.
Total nine Singaporeans were on the slope of Mt. Dukono when it spew a column of ashes with more than 10,000 meter high from its creater on Friday morning.
"Today's searching has been paused. It doesn't mean we do not want to continue the rescue operation in the night, but the eruption of Mount Dukono is ongoing," Head of Ternate SAR Office Iwan Ramdani said in a press conference.
The rescue operation will resume on Saturday.***
