Tehran/Washington - Iran and United States (US) have been in exchanging of fires at the Strait of Hormuz, starting Friday, 8 May 2026 eastern time, in which Tehran claimed has downed one of Washington's war ship.

Iranian Sepah (IRGC) issued a statement on Friday saying its Navy launched "intense" missile attacks against US Navy ships, after  American violated ceasefire.

IRGC said US carried airstrikes on an Iranian oil tanker that was moving from coastal waters in Jask region towards Hormuz Strait as well as another ship that is entering the strait opposite Fujairah Port in United Arab Emirates (UAE).

IRGC also said that US airstrikes were also targeted civilians areas in the coastal areas in Khamir, Shirk and Qeshm Island.

"The IRGC has immediately and in retaliation attacked American military vessels east of the Strait of Hormuz and south of Chabahar Port, causing significant damage to them," IRGC said through its Telegram account on Friday, 8 May 2026.

U.S. Central Commander confirmed the attacks toward its three small boats - USS Truxtun, USS Mason, and USS Rafael Peralta - on Thursday,7 May 2026, and none of them were struck.

"U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) eliminated inbound threats and targeted Iranian military facilities responsible for attacking U.S. forces including missile and drone launch sites; command and control locations; and intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance nodes," it said.

Separately, Iran's Khatam al-Anbiya  Spokesperson Ebrahim Zolfaghari confirmed that one U.S. Navy warship was burning.

"U.S. Navy warship that burning in 10 miles off Cape Musandam. We said you had no right of passage," he said.***
