Tokyo - About an hour after a powerful earthquake hit Venezuela, the USGS issued another statement on a magnitude 6.9 earthquake that has shaken northern part of Japan on Thursday, 25 June 2026 local time and due to that tremor, Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi has issued instructions for handling the situation.
The USGS said the center of the earthquake was off shore with 51 km depth, about 35.5 km east of Northeast Kuji. No tsunami warning was issued related with the earthquake.
The earthquake occurred near Aomori Prefecture in northern part of Japan and Prime Minister Takaichi has issued three point of instructions, including to prioritizing human life above all else.
PM Takaichi also ordered related institution to provide information to the public in relation with evacuation, state of damages and others.
"Act in close coordination with local governments and under the principle of prioritizing human life above all else, spare no effort in our emergency disaster responses, including saving lives and rescuing disaster victims," PM Takaichi instructed on Thursday.***
